Day 1: Istanbul
Refresh with a quick dip at your hotel pool, the largest in Istanbul.
This afternoon begin exploring the historic streets and dramatic backdrop of Istanbul with your expert guide and driver. Visit the trendy (Istanbul’s “Soho”) area of Ortakoy, filled with cafés and restaurants. We’ll recommend one of our favorite kid-friendly establishments.
Day 2: Istanbul
In the morning discover historic Sultanahmet at the magnificent Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, with its famous six minarets and turquoise tiles.
This afternoon, embark on a family-friendly food tour with one of Istanbul’s leading culinary experts. Explore the various regional cuisines of Turkey by visiting and tasting from the street food stalls in and around Istanbul’s vibrant neighborhoods.
Day 3: Istanbul
Highlights of your day: the excellent Rahmi M. Koc Museum (filled with models and toys from recent Turkish history), Discovery Sphere Planetarium, famous Spice Bazaar and Grand Bazaar.
Late this afternoon embark on a luxury private cruise up the Bosphorus, with Europe on your left and Asia on your right as your family celebrates this historic city in style.
Day 4: Istanbul
Begin your day with a hands-on calligraphy workshop. Let your imagination run wild to create a masterpiece you will be proud to call your own.
Spend the afternoon with your guide wandering engaging Istiklal Street.
The pedestrian-only street is sprinkled with cafes, stores and galleries. Hop on a charming red tram to enjoy a nostalgic look at this famed corridor.
Day 5: Cappadocia
Fly to Cappadocia.
For the next few days, you will be immersed in a totally other-worldly landscape. Explore monastic cave churches, some dating to the 3rd century, where the vivid frescoes are often remarkably intact.
Highlights of your morning: Goreme Valley and the restored “Dark Church,” and the village of Avanos, set on the banks of the Kizilirmak (Red River).
This afternoon, get your hands dirty at a private hands-on pottery lesson. Fair warning, you may need to hose down the kids after.
Day 6: Cappadocia
Watch the sun rise as you soar through the skies from your perch on a hot air balloon adventure (optional).
Highlights of your morning: the underground city of Kaymakli and picture-esque Pasbag Valley.
This afternoon, traverse Cappadocia’s moonscape terrain on a Jeep Safari. The open-top jeeps give an unobstructed view of the natural wonders of Cappadocia. You might even spot some sites used to film Star Wars.
Tonight, enjoy a Mevlana performance of Whirling Dervishes at a 13th century caravanserai.
Day 7: Alacati
Fly to Izmir.
Head to the relaxing, beachside, Aegean town of Alacati, renowned for the numerous hundred-year old white stone houses.
Spend the afternoon unwinding poolside at your hotel, beachside or strolling through the local market and charming shops. Alacati is also known for kite-surfing and wind-surfing due to the calm natures of its water.
Day 8: Alacati
Spend the day sailing (and swimming) the Aegean and exploring the Cesme Peninsula on your private wooden luxury gulet (traditional Turkish sailing vessel).
Day 9: Istanbul
Fly to Istanbul.
